In April 2021, the Port of Figueira da Foz handled 5.14% more goods compared to the same period in the previous year, significantly reversing the number of traffic figures recorded in the previous month.
The products that contributed the most to this increase were paper products, with an increase of 14.46%, wood by-products, which increased 100%, although with little expression in quantitative terms, and non-metallic minerals, with a growth of 175.13%, highlighting among these, gypsum as one of the cargoes that recorded the highest turnover and cement with an increase of 32.59%.
With regard to containerised cargo, a significant increase of 17.4% in total TEUS and 16.87% in the number of containers handled was recorded in homologous terms, confirming the result already recorded at the end of the month of March, in which an increase was recorded in both indicators.
Finally, it is important to emphasise that, after a winter period in which the port was forced to limit maximum draughts due to successive storms and anomalous episodes of silting of the bar, the recovery to normal levels of cargo handling and ship size has been carried out at a fast pace and consistently in view of the performance and resilience of the entire port community, including operators, cargo owners and workers.
