CESAM - Environment and Sea Study Centre of the University of Aveiro presented the Navsafety project to a group of MEPs from the Fisheries Commission, who are visiting Portugal.
This project, developed in partnership with the Port of Figueira da Foz, the University of Aveiro, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, Simbiente and DGRM, consists of a technological platform that generates high frequency information in near real time, in the form of morphological indicators (location of submerged bars width and position of the navigation channel) and oceanographic (height, period and direction of waves) indicators of the entrance of ports, allowing a better management of maritime traffic, as well as the need for dredging, an aspect of special relevance for ports located on coasts exposed to intense sediment transport, as is the case of the Port of Figueira da Foz.
