The Ports of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz joined the Platform WindEurope Ports of the association WindEurope, being the only Portuguese ports to integrate it.

This platform, which aims to increase the visibility of the role of ports in the offshore wind industry, promotes, among others, the identification of new projects, as well as sharing best practices and knowledge.

It should be noted that the wind energy sector is of particular interest for the Port of Aveiro, considering the connection of this sector to companies already established in the port and its surroundings, which use this port infrastructure for the handling of their cargo, namely CSWind PT and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Blades.

In the case of APFF, and given the proposals for delimitation of deployment areas for renewable energy at sea (offshore) that was recently under public discussion, it is expected that this sector will also assume some relevance in the activity of the port, since Figueira da Foz integrates the list of areas proposed by the working group for the planning and operation of power generation centres based on renewable energy sources of ocean origin or location (offshore), created by Ministerial Order No. 11404/2022, of 23 September.

Currently there are about 30 European ports members of this platform.

Following this membership, the Ports of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz attended, for the first time, the annual WindEurope event, exclusively dedicated to the onshore and offshore wind energy sector, which took place in Copenhagen, between 25 and 27 April, and were represented by their Port Coordination Directors, Pedro Lemos and Joaquim Sotto Maior, respectively.

The Wind Europe association, which includes the WindEurope Ports platform, currently has more than 400 members from the entire wind energy value chain, including wind turbine manufacturers, component suppliers, electricity and wind farm development companies, financial institutions, research institutes and national wind energy associations.
