As part of the recent membership of the Platform of Ports of WindEurope, an association that promotes the use of wind energy in Europe, the Ports of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz took part, on 19 June, in a working meeting promoted by that organisation.
Several European ports, leaders in renewable wind energy, attended the event, namely the Port of Port-la Nouvelle (France), the Port of Amsterdam (Netherlands), the Port of Cork (Ireland), the Port of Odense and Grenaa (Denmark), the Port of Den Helder and Groningen Maritime Ports (Netherlands).
At the meeting the main challenges of the sector were analysed, with particular emphasis on the definition of offshore wind energy auctions, as well as the development of ports as infrastructures to support the implementation of these projects.
This was followed by a visit to the Port of Esbjerg, including a visit to sites dedicated to pre-installation, operation and maintenance activities, turbine tests and trials, as well as storage of components (wind turbine nacelles).
