On 26 June, the Working Group on the Planning and Operation of Power Plants based on Renewable Energy Sources from the Sea presented its report with conclusions and recommendations to the members of the Government responsible for the Sea, Energy and Infrastructure..
The report proposes, in a first phase, the provision of a capacity of up to 3.5 GW in Viana do Castelo, Leixões and Figueira da Foz, which will be the subject of several competitive procedures to be launched by the end of this year, contributing to the 10 GW capacity target set for 2030.
In addition, an updated preliminary proposal of the specialised areas was presented, taking into account the work of the Advisory Committee of the Plan for the Allocation of Maritime Areas for the Exploitation of Renewable Energies, as well as the contributions resulting from the public hearing.
The need to develop port infrastructures was not overlooked, and the need for each port to specialise in supporting the construction and maintenance of future wind farms was highlighted.To this end, the importance of an industrial development strategy for the sector was stressed, which has already begun with a preliminary analysis of the national and international panorama.
The working group will continue its technical work until the end of September, with a view to defining the spatialised areas for offshore wind energy production, the procedural models to be used and the requirements for the development of electrical and port infrastructures.
