Work on improving maritime access at the Port of Figueira da Foz resumed last week, once the necessary conditions for restarting on-site work had been met. The resumption follows a favourable opinion from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), which, via an official communication, authorised the conditional and phased restart of the works.

In the phase now resumed, the works focus on three main areas. In the navigation channel, rock breaking and dredging works are planned, and at the Doca dos Bacalhoeiros, the rockfill on the western breakwater will be dismantled. As for the berthing quay, covering a total length of 530 metres and encompassing the Solid Bulk Terminal and the General Cargo Terminal, dredging will be carried out, along with the installation of metal piles, the construction of the deck structure, and the installation of hydraulic and electrical equipment and infrastructure.

Completion of the works is currently scheduled for October this year, although this deadline may be adjusted as the project progresses.
