The Port of Figueira da Foz recorded a recovery in activity during the second quarter of 2026, achieving a 5.35% increase compared with the same period in the previous year.
Following a particularly challenging first quarter, heavily affected by successive periods of adverse weather and the operational constraints caused by the closure of the port entrance, the latest figures indicate a reversal of this trend and point to a recovery in port activity.
The first months of the year presented significant challenges for the entire port community. Terminal operators, shipping agents, companies, workers and all other stakeholders faced this period with resilience, understanding and a strong spirit of cooperation, helping to minimise the impact of these exceptional circumstances.
As a result of improved navigational conditions, the Port of Figueira da Foz can now accommodate vessels at the Dry Bulk Terminal with a draught of up to 7.0 metres, above the previous operational limit of 6.5 metres, provided that wave height does not exceed 1.5 metres. This increase in the maximum permitted draught is of particular importance, strengthening the port's competitiveness in the current context, expanding its operational capacity and enabling it to respond more effectively to the needs of operators and market demands, while enhancing its ability to attract new cargo flows and additional vessel calls.
Against this backdrop, the Port of Figueira da Foz Administration looks to the coming months with confidence and expects a positive third quarter, supported by stable navigational conditions and the gradual recovery of commercial activity.
